IEC Ambassador Richard Schomberg has spoken about the importance of International Standards at the India Smart Grid Conference and Exhibition.
Richard Schomberg, an IEC Ambassador representing the interests of the IEC in the sector of Smart Energy, spoke recently at the India Smart Grid Conference and Exhibition. In his speech, Mr. Schomberg highlighted the importance of standardization as technology moves forward and complexities increase.
Globally, economic growth will be driven by cheap energy and a digital revolution. However, energy security must be universally ensured.
The full speech below:
What is our collective world challenge?
The long-term sustainability of food, water, and energy
security should be universally ensured.
The energy demand is climbing, while greenhouse-gas
emissions must be curbed.
Customers have high expectations of resiliency, lower
cost, and a growing demand for new services secured
and respecting privacy.
The path forward!
A strong Smart Metering infrastructure is a foundation
for customer engagement and flexibility, and it is
enabling the full value of a modernized grid benefiting
from digitalization, and decentralization.
Technology is blazing forward, but the complexity is
rising very steeply! The success of massive roll-outs
will critically depend on system engineering skills and
industrial strategy of highly seasoned players.
Standardization is more than ever a master key to
take-up the challenge. IEC is committed to deliver an
enabling portfolio of technical standards, and the
EDF Group is committed to contribute with select
partners to sustainable development on all the
India has major cards in hand
Currently ranked seventh largest economy of the
world, India will move up to fifth place in 2018
overtaking the United Kingdom and France, and vault
to third spot by 2032, said the London Centre for
Economics and Business Research.
Cheap energy and a digital revolution will drive
economic growth globally.
For the digital revolution India is already the software
factory of the world.
For energy the ISGF has been tirelessly investigating
and outreaching for years and is a strong foundation
ready to support the smartest paths to deployments.
ISGF is recognized worldwide, has been one of the
first to join the world Global Smart Grid Federation, is
publishing a very relevant newsletter, and organizing
events that are very effective connectors like this 4th
India Smart Grid Week.
