Michael Mulquin, the new Chair of IEC Systems Committee (SyC) Smart Cities, is a leading expert in the area of smart city standardization.
In addition to his role as Chair of the IEC Systems Committee, Mulquin is President of the not for profit Smart Cities Association, the “go to” organization for cities wanting to work with industry to develop common solutions for city challenges. Before becoming Chair, he was an active member of the IEC Smart Cities Evaluation Group where he led the work on smart city models.
Mulquin was acting Chair of the SyC since July 2017 and Convenor of Working Group (WG) 1, which is developing definitions of key smart city terminology. He is an active member of other working groups.
Last but not least, he is a member of ISO and IEC Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1, inside WG 11 on Smart Cities and a member of the joint ISO/IEC/ITU-T Working Group on Smart City Terminology. Mulquin can speak Urdu and has lived in India and Pakistan, in addition to the UK.
