IEC experts from IEC TC 111 have attended an important international conference in San Francisco on chemical restrictions in electronics and electricals. The event on 8th and 9th November brought together legislators, regulators, industry leaders, researchers and other stakeholders.
The Chemicals Management for Electronics and Electricals event broached a wide variety of topics were broached, including the EU directives on the restriction of hazardous substances and medical devices, as well as the EU’s circular economy initiatives. Information on what is happening in other areas of the world, from South America to the Middle East, was also presented.
North American legislation and specific issues were also touched upon. IEC TC 111 expert Scott MacLeod, principal chemist in UL LLC’s Performance Materials Division in the USA, presented the work of IEC TC 111, in particular on IEC 62474, of which a new version is about to be released. He also spoke about the TC’s new activities for the circular economy and harmonizing of environmental performance.
